Hijo Industrial Estates officially broke ground on June 16, 2017, for its ambitious 760-hectare integrated township project located in Barangay Madaum, Tagum City, Davao del Norte. The ₱1-billion development, spearheaded by Hijo Resources Inc., is set to transform the area into one of Mindanao’s most dynamic centers for business, industry, and tourism.

The master-planned township will feature a Business and Retail Hub, a satellite Government Center, and well-integrated residential communities, alongside a 320-hectare Leisure and Tourism Zone that will showcase forest reserves, beach fronts, and eco-tourism areas. Designed to balance economic growth and environmental sustainability, the project reflects the long-term vision of Tagum City as a progressive and livable urban center.

A key component of the development is its Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Zone, aimed at attracting Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and technology-driven enterprises. Complementing this is a central lake with recreational amenities, which will serve as a focal point for both residents and visitors.

Strengthening Tagum City’s role as a regional logistics and trade gateway, the township will also host a 54-hectare deep-sea port, developed in partnership with International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI). Once operational, the port is expected to initially handle up to 450,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), significantly boosting the movement of goods and supporting export-oriented industries in Mindanao.

The project is strategically positioned to capitalize on ASEAN free trade opportunities, with plans to process and add value to raw agricultural and industrial materials for export. La Filipina, a food processing company based in Iloilo, has already confirmed its entry as the township’s first locator, signaling strong investor confidence in the area.

Residential development, to be undertaken by Sta. Lucia Realty, is expected to commence within three months, further reinforcing the township’s vision as a self-sustaining urban community.

With its strategic location, expanding infrastructure, investor-friendly environment, and growing skilled workforce, Tagum City continues to emerge as one of the fastest-rising cities in Mindanao. This landmark development underscores the city’s growing stature as a business hub of the Davao Region, poised to drive inclusive growth, generate employment, and attract both local and international investments in the years ahead.
